How ratings work

Every player has a rating from 0 to 15. It's used to balance draws and groups, and it updates as you play.

Points for each match

Each tracked match earns points based on which court you played on and whether you won. Higher courts are worth more, and a win adds a bonus. The result is scaled to 0–15, so it means the same thing however many courts you use.

That makes it ideal for up-and-down-the-river nights, where the best players work their way to Court 1.

Your rating

Your rating is the average of your last 20 match scores. The player profile shows a chart of them and a breakdown of how your current rating is calculated.

Seed ratings

An organiser can give a player a seed rating (0–15) as a starting point, like a handicap. For the first 10 tracked matches it's blended with real results: 90% seed after one match, fading to nothing after ten.

On the profile you'll see something like "Seed 4.0 (90%) + Matches 15.0 (10%) = 5.10, 9 left". "9 left" means nine more matches until the seed has faded out.

What the symbols mean

  • ~ in front of a rating: provisional, because the player has fewer than 5 tracked matches.
  • Unrated: a player with no seed shows Unrated until they've played 3 matches.

What ratings are used for

Round Robin pairing ignores ratings. You can hide them with Show Skill Levels in Settings. Ratings are never shown on the live page or on share cards.

  • Skill Based seeding in Single Elimination
  • Pool order in Double Elimination
  • Balanced groups (snake draft) in Group Stage
  • The Ladder's starting order
