Your choices
- 2, 3 or 4 groups.
- The top 1 or 2 from each group go through.
- The app only offers combinations that play through to one champion, and shows "Group sizes: …" before you start.
How groups are made
A snake draft on rating spreads the strongest players across the groups, so every group is balanced. Each group plays a round robin. In doubles, partners rotate within the group.
How a group is ranked
- Points (win 1, draw ½)
- Head-to-head, when two players are level
- Point difference, if you're tracking scores
- Seeding. The app tells you when seeding decided a place.
The knockout
Qualifiers go into a cross-group knockout. Group winners are kept apart, and players from the same group meet as late as possible. Top seeds get any byes. For example, 2 groups with the top 2 going through gives 4 qualifiers and a semi-final.
Minimum players
4 for singles and 8 for doubles (two groups of four).
FAQ
Why can't I pick some combinations?
Some combinations can't produce a single champion, or would start with no matches. The app hides those so every tournament plays through to a winner.
