How to run a pickleball round robin

A pickleball round robin with rotating partners is the classic club format: you play with and against lots of different people, and everyone gets a fair amount of court time.

Courts and numbers

Each court takes four players for doubles. Divide your players by four to see how many courts you can fill. Any players left over sit out that round, and the sit-outs rotate so it's fair.

For example, 10 players on 2 courts means 8 play and 2 sit out each round. With 13 players on 3 courts, 12 play and 1 sits out.

Rotating partners

Each round, players get a new partner and new opponents where possible. Tournament Generator's Unique pairing looks for the round with the fewest repeat partners and opponents. With small groups some repeats can't be avoided, and the app picks the option with the fewest.

Prefer to keep partners? Use Fixed pairs instead, and each team is one row in the table.

Scoring

Most club round robins play one game to 11, win by 2. That's the default in Tournament Generator when you pick Pickleball. You can also just tap the winner if you don't want to record scores.

The table ranks by wins, then point difference when scores are tracked. For a relaxed social night, No Winners mode skips results altogether and just rotates players.

Running it on the night

  1. Add your players, choose Doubles and pick Pickleball.
  2. Set your number of courts and Unique pairing.
  3. Start. The app shows every court and who's sitting out.
  4. Enter results as games finish, then tap Complete Round for the next round.
  5. Share the live link or QR code so players can follow the courts and table on their phones.

Free covers up to 8 players on 1 court, which means 4 play and 4 sit out each round. For a bigger group on more courts, Pro allows up to 10 courts and unlimited players, with a 7-day free trial.

FAQ

How long does a pickleball round robin take?

Mostly it depends on how many rounds you play. Count how long one game to 11 takes at your club and multiply by the number of rounds. With Continuous, you keep playing rounds until you tap Finish.

What if players arrive late?

Tap Manage on the live screen to add or remove players. Changes take effect next round, so games in progress aren't disturbed.
