Tournament Generator

Best tournament generator apps in 2026

There's no single best tournament generator. A club running a Tuesday pickleball night needs something different from an esports league taking online sign-ups, or a football day across twelve pitches. So instead of one winner, here are six good tools and what each one is best at.

We make Tournament Generator, so read this with that in mind. Everything we say about other products comes from their own websites and App Store listings (linked at the end), checked on 19 October 2026. Prices and features change, so check before you choose.

1. Tournament Generator: best for club nights on courts

Tournament Generator is an app for iPhone, iPad and Android that runs the night from one phone. Add players, pick a format and the number of courts, and it makes the pairings: rotating or fixed doubles partners, sit-outs that rotate fairly when you have more players than court spaces, and a table that updates as results come in.

It has six formats: Round Robin, Single and Double Elimination, Swiss, Group Stage and a Ladder ("up and down the river"). Players can follow courts and the table on a live link, QR code or 6-character code in any phone's browser, without an app or account. There's no account and no ads, and running a tournament doesn't need a connection.

Free covers Round Robin and Single Elimination for up to 8 players on 1 court. Pro (£2.99/month, £19.99/year or £39.99 lifetime (UK prices), with a 7-day free trial on monthly and yearly) adds the other formats, unlimited players, up to 10 courts, multi-set scoring and season tables.

  • No online sign-ups or payments: it's built for the organiser running the courts, not for registration.
  • Results are entered on the organiser's phone; players can't enter their own scores.
  • No Americano points totals or Mexicano mode: the table ranks by wins, then point difference.
  • The free plan covers 8 players on 1 court. More players or courts need Pro.

2. Challonge: best for online brackets with sign-ups

Challonge is a website for brackets, events and communities. It covers single and double elimination, round robin, Swiss, free-for-all and group stages, for any game, sport or activity.

The free Standard plan is ad-supported, with unlimited tournaments and up to 256 participants per tournament. It takes paid registrations through Stripe ($0.75 per order on the free plan). Premier is $6.99 a month billed yearly: no ads, up to 512 participants, embeddable brackets with custom themes and no Challonge fee on paid registrations.

Pick it when people sign up and pay online, or when the bracket lives on a website. Its pricing and home pages don't describe court rotation or sit-outs for a club session, so for running courts on the night, look elsewhere.

3. Tournify: best for big team tournaments

Tournify is a website for tournaments and leagues with a format and schedule tool, participant management, and a live website and slideshow for the venue.

It's priced per event. Amateur is free for up to 8 teams. World Class is €40 for up to 60 teams and adds custom branding, sponsors and publishing in the Tournify app for Android and iOS. Legendary is €120 for unlimited teams. A €20 Pro plan covers online esports tournaments.

Pick it for a big football, hockey or school tournament with many teams across many pitches, where branding and sponsors matter.

4. Tourney: a bracket and league app for iPhone and iPad

Tourney - Tournament Maker supports single and double elimination, group stage, round robin, Swiss and a scorecard mode, for up to 64 players or teams. Spectators can follow in read-only mode with real-time updates.

Core features are free with no ads. Paid options in the app include $12.99 one-time access, $14.99 a month or $69.99 a year, plus club and enterprise plans. It's rated 4.5 from 466 ratings on the US App Store.

5. Pickleheads: best for pickleball groups with sign-ups

Pickleheads is a pickleball app for iOS and Android. Its round robin tool has 12 formats with rotating or fixed partners, unlimited players and courts, players entering their own scores, real-time standings, DUPR score submission, payment collection and waitlists.

The free plan includes 2 round robins a month. After that you can buy extra round robins at $5 each or upgrade, and groups where every player has Pickleheads Plus ($1.67 a month, billed annually) can run unlimited round robins. The tool runs in the app on the day.

6. Americano Padel: best for points-based padel Americano

Americano Padel (by Perkodar AB) is built for padel's social formats: Normal, Mixed and Team Americano, Mexicano and its variants, and Beat the Box. It scores with rally points or games and sets, and it's rated 4.8 from 140 ratings on the US App Store.

It's free on one court. Premium, needed for multiple courts, is $4.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $79.99 forever in the app.

How we chose

We looked for tools that organisers actually use to run events, and compared them on what decides the choice: which formats they run, who they're built for (a club night on courts, an online bracket, a multi-pitch team event), what the free plan covers, what paid plans cost, and how players follow along.

We didn't rank by star ratings alone. Small rating counts swing a lot, and a five-star bracket app is still the wrong tool for a padel Americano.

Which one should you pick?

  • Running a club night on courts with more players than spaces: Tournament Generator.
  • Online sign-ups, payments or very large brackets: Challonge.
  • A big team tournament across many pitches, with sponsors: Tournify.
  • Pickleball sessions with sign-ups, DUPR and payments: Pickleheads.
  • Padel Americano or Mexicano scored on total points: Americano Padel.

FAQ

What is the best free tournament generator?

It depends on the event. For online brackets, Challonge's free plan allows up to 256 participants (with ads). For a club night, Tournament Generator is free for 8 players on 1 court, with no ads. To just print a schedule, the free round robin and bracket generators on this site need no sign-up.

Which tournament app works without internet?

Tournament Generator runs a whole tournament with no connection; only its optional live link needs internet. For other apps, check their listings: we only state what their own pages say.

Can players follow the tournament on their phones?

Most of these tools allow it. Tournament Generator uses a live link, QR code or join code that opens in any browser. Tournify has a live website and slideshow, Tourney has read-only spectator viewing, and Pickleheads shows real-time standings in its app.

Is there a tournament generator for Android?

Yes. Tournament Generator is on Google Play as well as the App Store, and Pickleheads says it's on iOS and Android. Challonge and Tournify run in a web browser.
