Tournament Generator

Best free round robin generators in 2026

A round robin generator makes the schedule where everyone plays everyone. The free ones differ more than you'd think: some only do singles, some need a multiple of four, some limit how many you can run, and some add courts, sit-outs and live scores. Here's what each free option actually gives you.

We make Tournament Generator, so read this with that in mind. Everything we say about other products comes from their own websites and App Store listings (linked at the end), checked on 19 October 2026. Prices and features change, so check before you choose.

1. The round robin generator on this site: best for courts and doubles

Type the names (one per line), choose Singles or Doubles with rotating partners, and set the number of courts, tables or boards. It builds the schedule straight away in the browser, with no sign-up and no ads, and prints cleanly.

In singles it uses the circle method, so every pair meets exactly once, and it fills every court each round: 6 players on 2 courts take 8 rounds rather than 10. In doubles it rotates partners with as few repeats as possible and sits people out in turn; 8 players on 2 courts partner everyone exactly once in 7 rounds. There are also ready-made printable schedules for 3 to 16 players.

2. LeagueLobster LITE: best for team leagues

LeagueLobster's LITE scheduler is free for up to 25 teams. Paid plans remove the ads and unlock more teams and advanced scheduling. LeagueLobster can print schedules with team names, times and locations and export to CSV, though its page doesn't say which of those the free LITE version includes. A simpler free printable schedule is offered for up to 12 teams.

3. Challonge: best when the round robin lives online

Challonge's free Standard plan is ad-supported, with unlimited tournaments and up to 256 participants per tournament, and round robin is one of its formats alongside elimination, Swiss, free-for-all and group stages. It suits events where players sign up online or follow a bracket on a website.

4. dCode: quick Americano-style pairs

dCode's round robin pairing tool makes a doubles schedule where partners rotate every round (it calls this an Americano). Enter a number of players or a list of names. The number of players needs to be a multiple of four; otherwise some slots are left empty. Exporting to CSV or text is free.

5. Pickleheads: free round robins in a pickleball app

Pickleheads' round robin tool runs in its app, with 12 formats, score entry by players and real-time standings. The free plan includes 2 round robins a month; extra ones are $5 each.

6. Tournament Generator: when you want the app to run it

A printed schedule can't update the table. The Tournament Generator app records results, re-sorts the table after every game, rotates sit-outs as people arrive or leave, and shares a live link players open in their browser. It's free for 8 players on 1 court, with no ads and no account.

What to look for in a free round robin generator

  • Courts: can it split each round across the courts or tables you actually have?
  • Odd numbers: does it rotate the bye or sit-out fairly?
  • Doubles: can partners rotate, or only fixed teams?
  • Limits: how many players or schedules before you have to pay?
  • Sign-up and ads: do you need an account just to make a schedule?
  • After the schedule: do you need live scores and a table, or is a printed sheet enough?

FAQ

How many matches are in a round robin?

In singles, n × (n − 1) ÷ 2. 8 players play 28 matches; 10 players play 45.

How many rounds does a round robin take?

With enough courts, n − 1 rounds for an even number of players and n rounds for an odd number, where one player has a bye each round. With fewer courts, rounds are split to fit.

Can a free generator do rotating doubles partners?

Some can. The generator on this site and dCode both rotate partners; dCode needs a multiple of four players, while the generator on this site sits extra players out in turn.

Do I need to sign up to make a round robin schedule?

Not with the generator on this site: it works in the browser with no account.
