Tournament Generator

Best free bracket makers in 2026

Need a knockout bracket? The free options split into three kinds: printable brackets you fill in by hand, online brackets that update as results come in, and apps that run the whole event. Here's what each free bracket maker actually gives you, with the limits that matter.

We make Tournament Generator, so read this with that in mind. Everything we say about other products comes from their own websites and App Store listings (linked at the end), checked on 19 October 2026. Prices and features change, so check before you choose.

1. The bracket generator on this site: best for running it on the day

Paste up to 64 names in seed order (or tap Shuffle for a random draw) and the bracket is built straight away, with byes added automatically: the top seeds get them, and seeds 1 and 2 can only meet in the final. Click a name to send them through, and the bracket fills in round by round. Print it for the wall or keep it open on your phone. No sign-up and no ads.

2. CommonNinja: best for a sheet to fill in by hand

CommonNinja's printable bracket maker is completely free with no account, for 2 to 64 players or teams (bracket sizes of 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64). Type the players and print a clean A4 sheet, or save a PDF or PNG. A seeded draw keeps the top seeds apart and gives them the byes. Double, consolation and triple elimination have their own pages.

3. BracketCreator.net: best for brackets with pictures

BracketCreator.net is free with no registration and no usage limits, for single-elimination brackets of 2 to 128 teams. You can add team pictures or logos, which stay in your browser, and export the finished bracket as a high-resolution PNG.

4. Challonge: best for online brackets with sign-ups

Challonge's free Standard plan is ad-supported, with unlimited tournaments and up to 256 participants. Besides single and double elimination it has round robin, Swiss, free-for-all and group stages, and it can take paid registrations through Stripe.

5. Score7: best for a shareable results page

Score7 runs knockout, double elimination, round robin, Swiss and groups into a knockout. Each tournament gets a public page with a link and QR code that updates as scores are saved. You can start without an account and sign up to keep the tournament; the free Starter plan has Score7 branding and ads.

6. Tournament Generator app: when the bracket needs to run itself

The app's Single Elimination seeds randomly, by rating or manually, adds byes, has an optional 3rd-place playoff, and shares a live link players open in their browser. Single Elimination is free for up to 8 players on 1 court; Double Elimination and bigger draws need Pro.

What to look for in a free bracket maker

  • Byes: does it add them automatically when your number isn't 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64?
  • Seeding: can you keep the strongest players apart until the late rounds?
  • Size: how many entrants does the free version allow?
  • Printing: a clean sheet, a PDF or only an image?
  • Sign-up and ads: do you need an account to make one bracket?
  • Double elimination: is it included, or only single elimination?

FAQ

How many byes does my bracket need?

Round your number of players up to the next power of two (4, 8, 16, 32, 64); the difference is the number of byes. 12 players use a 16-slot bracket with 4 byes.

How many matches are in a knockout bracket?

One fewer than the number of players or teams, because every match knocks one out. 16 players means 15 matches, plus a 3rd-place match if you add one.

Is there a free bracket maker with no sign-up?

Yes. The bracket generator on this site, CommonNinja and BracketCreator.net all work without an account. Score7 lets you start without one and sign up to keep the tournament.

Which free bracket maker does double elimination?

Challonge and Score7 include double elimination, and CommonNinja has a separate double elimination page. The generator on this site makes single elimination; the Tournament Generator app runs double elimination with Pro.
